ƒ ƒ The Eastern Caribbean Payments Council was reconstituted in June 2018, with Deputy Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, Trevor Brathwaite as Chairman. ƒ ƒ 1 October 2018 marked 35 years since the ECCB was established. The anniversary was commemorated under the theme: Celebrating 35 Years of Existence, Service and Monetary Stability . ƒ ƒ The Bank release the 100 th episode of its weekly public education programme, ECCB Connects , on 24 October 2018. As part of the Bank’s communication thrust, the programme seeks to provide insights to the public about the work of the ECCB and how it affects the lives of the people of the ECCU. ƒ ƒ GlobalMarkets named Governor, Timothy N. J. Antoine, Central Bank Governor of the Year for the Caribbean in October 2018. GlobalMarkets is the featured newspaper for the meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF)/The World Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Asian Development Bank and Inter-American Development Bank. It recognises the accomplishments of the world’s outstanding policymakers during its annual awards event. ƒ ƒ In November 2018, Governor Timothy N. J. Antoine assumed Chairmanship of the CARICOM Central Banks Governors. ƒ ƒ The first Chief Director (Policy), D Tracy Polius, was appointed on 7 January 2019. ƒ ƒ The ECCB launched its EC Digital Currency Pilot Project on 12 March 2019. The launch followed the ECCB’s signing of a contract with Barbados-based FinTech company, Bitt Inc. on 21 February 2019 to conduct a blockchain-issued Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) pilot within the ECCU.
