9.0 TYPING WEIGHTS AND MEASUREMENTS The unit of measurement is typed in full where the number is expressed in words. However, as is more common, when figures are used the unit of measurement is abbreviated. e.g. twenty cubic feet 20 cu ft
Attention should also be given to the following:
a. Abbreviations should not be in the plural e.g. 55 mm, 20 kg
b. The full stop is not necessary.
c. One space is left between the number and the unit of measurement.
d. An ‘x’ can be used instead of the word ‘by’ in measurements. However, one space is required before and after the ‘x’. e. As a general rule, figures and measurements should not be divided at the end of lines.
10.0 USE OF EMAILS Introduction
a. Font – Georgia b. Font Size - 12 c. Add a salutation If unsure of the appropriate salutation, stick to the formal salutation. d. Get to the Point Messages should be concise and to the point. E-mail should not be used as a substitute for telephone or face conversations. e. Watch the Grammar and Punctuation The message should be accurate in content as well as style. Do not skimp on the grammar and punctuation.
f. Do not Write in ALL Capitals and/or Red Font ‘All capitals and red font’ are analogous to shouting.
