MEDIA RELATIONS

MEDIA COVERAGE

1) Requests for media coverage should be channelled through the Corporate Relations Department.

2) Invitations to the media should be issued in the form of media advisories. These should be issued one week prior to the function, preferably at the start of the week, to enable inclusion in the media houses’ duty roster. Follow-up at least 2 days before the function to confirm the media’s attendance.

3) Request media houses set up no later than 30 – 45 minutes before the start of a function. This will enable the appropriate sound, power and other checks to be made.

4) Provide the SSMD with a list of media personnel and the media houses being represented at each function.

5) Where applicable, prepare information packages (press kits) for each media house. Kits should include media conference guidelines, copies of the programme, biographical details of speakers and available speeches and presentations. Information unrelated to the specific event should not be included in the kit .

6) The CRD should be represented at each function to which the media has been invited.

7) All media interviews given by Bank officials should be recorded by the CRD. These recordings will be used to verify or clarify issues if and when they arise.

8) Media inquiries should be directed through the CRD to the Bank’s designated spokespersons.

9) Where possible, avoid scheduling major media events between 4:00 and 6:00 pm, the time when most media houses are finalising their stories for the evening news. Most radio stations carry their major even newscasts from 5:30 pm. 10) Most weekly newspapers have a cut-off deadline of Wednesday at 4:00 pm. Therefore, news releases about functions scheduled for a Monday morning should be sent to the newspapers by the Wednesday of the previous week.
