Governor, Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Timothy N. J. Antoine

Timothy N. J. Antoine, a national of Grenada, assumed duties as the third Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) on 1 February 2016. Mr. Antoine is an economist and development practitioner by training, experience and passion. He holds a BSc Degree in Economics with Management from the University of the West Indies (Cave Hill) and a MSc Degree in Social Policy and Planning in Developing Countries from the London School of Economics. Before assuming the office of Governor, Mr. Antoine had a 22-year distinguished career with the Government of Grenada. Much of that time (14 years), he served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance. From November 2005 to November 2007, Mr. Antoine served as Advisor to the Executive Director for Canada, Ireland and the Caribbean in the World Bank Group and was based in Washington D.C. He is the recipient of The Order of Grenada Gold Award for Excellence (2016). He has also been conferred with an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters by St. George’s University for services to Grenada and St. George’s University (2018). Mr. Antoine has contributed to the development of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU) and wider Caribbean by serving on several regional and international boards and committees. At present, he is Chairman of the Eastern Caribbean Home Mortgage Bank, Chairman of the Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange and Chairman of CCRIF SPC (formerly the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility).

Director General, OECS Commission H.E. Dr Didacus Jules

Dr Didacus Jules has had a long distinguished, multidimensional career focused on education, social transformation, and organizational re-engineering. He is currently the Director General of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) – a regional integration grouping of eleven Member States. His career covers national, regional, and international experience with the following highlights: ·Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Caribbean Examinations Council ·InterRegional Coordinator of the International Literacy Support Service ·Permanent Secretary for Education and Human Resource Development (Saint Lucia) as well as Permanent Secretary for Education & Chief Education Officer (concurrently) in Revolutionary Grenada

His qualifications include BA (Hons) UWI; MSc Curriculum Univ. Wisconsin-Madison; Ph.D. Education Policy University of Wisconsin-Madison and EMBA UWI.

Country Director for Latin America and the Caribbean Region The World Bank Lilia Burunciuc

Lilia Burunciuc is the World Bank Director for Caribbean countries. Ms. Burunciuc, a Moldovan national, is responsible for maintaining the partnership with the countries to address their development challenges. Since joining the World Bank in 1996, she held a range of increasingly challenging positions: Director for Central Asia; Manager in Operations Policy and Country Services; Country Manager for Macedonia; Country Program Coordinator for Southern Africa and Central Asia; Senior Country Officer for Ukraine and Belarus. She has extensive experience on leading policy dialogue with governments on various aspects of development. Prior to joining the Bank, Ms. Burunciuc was a Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (Moldova’s central bank). She has a Master’s of Public Administration degree from George Washington University (USA) and a degree(Master’s level) in Economics, Management andPlanning from the Technical University of Moldova.

Head, The University of the West Indies Open Campus St Kitts and Nevis Gaile Gray-Phillip

Mrs Gaile Gray-Phillip is the Head of The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Open Campus St Kitts and Nevis Site.In her capacity as Head, Mrs. Phillip assumes a range of responsibilities, including representing The UWI at the national level, providing strategic leadership, managing programme development and delivery, and ensuring student satisfaction. Mrs. Gray-Phillip is a researcher on alcohol consumption and alcohol policies and is the lead author and contributing author on articles published in the Drug and Alcohol Review, an international peer-reviewed journal. She has also published on adolescents’ perceptions of the harmful and beneficial effects of marijuana use in Texto & Contexto Enfermagem, a Journal of the Graduate Nursing Program, Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Her other research interests include adult online students’ learning environments. Mrs Phillip also serves as the Convenor for the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) Integrated Mathematics Syllabus Review Panel and member of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College Board of Governors. She is also a member of the St Kitts and Nevis National Drug Council and advises on the Drug Information Network.

Well Point Medical & Oncology Center, St Kitts and Nevis Dr Merisa Grant-Tate

Dr. Merisa Grant - Tate is a native of St. Kitts with a high diagnostic acumen and a wide clinical skill set. She has independently covered a myriad of government health services over 18 years, ranging from Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine and Community Medicine. Oncology however is her greatest passion. She is a Consultant Medical Oncologist with postgraduate studies in Radiotherapy and Clinical Research. She is a contributor to the IARC/ WHO CanScreen5 Global project, and a PAHO focal point on Cervical Cancer. Dr. Tate is a certified WHO+PAHO trainer in The Prevention and Management of Ebola and other Hemorrhagic diseases and holds PAHO certification in Mass Casualty. Dr. Tate has been awarded Outstanding Female in health and is an inductee of the St.Kitts – Nevis National Pioneering Women’s gallery. She is the National awardee of Women in Science 2022. She is a member of the European Society of Medical Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the Eastern Caribbean Diagnostic Oncology Network. She is also a published author.

Resident Scientist - Grenville Vale Tropical Botanic Garden, Grenada Dr Valma Jessamy

Dr Valma Jessamy is a native of the island of Grenada where she lives and works as the Resident Scientist of the award-winning Grenville Vale Tropical Botanic Garden, a venture she co-owns with her husband and has been developing since 2008. She has developed a proprietary planting scheme of over 135 species of medicinal plants native to the Caribbean. Dr Jessamy developed a proprietary medical-grade honey that has the highest bio-activity against anti-biotic drug resistant bacteria (MRSA, E. coli, etc.) when compared to other honeys available on the global market. The medical honey has formed the base for formulations of nutraceuticals and wound healing creams that she has developed and are now available on the market for use. At present she is the CEO and Principal Research Scientist of 17th/21st Century Cures Ltd. Dr. Jessamy is also the Executive Director and founder of JECO Caribbean Inc., the first environmental management and development consulting firm in the Eastern Caribbean, established in 1995.

Botany/Horticulture Lecturer & Botany Garden Coordinator, Department of Life Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology, UWI Mona Machel Emanuel, Msc., PhD.

Dr Machel Emanuel is a Lecturer/ Researcher in the Department of Life Sciences at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Jamaica. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and Botany, a Master of Science in Plant Production and Protection, and a PhD in Botany from UWI Mona. His area of research is Crop science, with a focus on post-harvest of fresh tropical and subtropical fruits and vegetables. He is also an internationally certified (IFOAM) Organic Farm Inspector. Dr Emanuel is the Principal Investigator of the Life Science Cannabis Research Group in the Department of Life Sciences, UWI Mona. His team conducts research in the area of Tropical Horticulture for Cannabis sativa, its application, consistency, efficacy, and quality control throughout the cannabis value chain. He is the Vice- chair of the Bureau of Standards Jamaica Cannabis Technical Committee for the development of standards for the Jamaica Cannabis Industry and a Technical member of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Cannabis Taskforce and Chairman of the Product Development Sub-committee.

Founder and CEO Medial Health, USA Stephen Felix

Stephen Felix is a Saint Lucian national and the Founder and CEO of Medial Health, a technology company building digital health solutions for the Caribbean and similar regions. He started this company after his paper medical record was misplaced, which led to a duplicate record being created. Medial Health's mission is to "make healthcare more efficient". Before starting Medial Health, Stephen served as Vice President in the Technology Division at Goldman Sachs Headquarters in New York City, a world leader in financial services. During his tenure of nearly a decade, Mr. Felix built and led multiple teams and technical projects covering cybersecurity, compliance, and investment research. He attended the Illinois Institute of Technology, where he studied Information Technology and Computer Science, and is currently an MBA candidate at the Quantic School of Business and Technology.

Mr. Felix is very passionate about technology and constantly challenges himself and his team with innovative and efficient ways to solve long-standing problems.

CEO, K-Group - Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Kelly John Glass

Kelly John Glass is a successful businessman native from New Zealand who made Saint Vincent and the Grenadines his second home.

He is the owner and managing director of numerous companies in Saint Vincent, spanning from construction to hospitality to the fast-food industry. Kelly was the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean in 1997. During his battle with cancer in 2018, Kelly used THC-infused caramels in his treatment. Once cured, he started Medicinal, a fully vertically integrated GACP and GMP compliant medicinal cannabis company from seed to sale. His company has made an extensive contribution to the development of the cannabis industry in Saint Vincent, from the first legal extraction of cannabis to the first formulated line of products in the country. Kelly also owns Greenhouse Café, the first cannabis consumption lounge in the area where patients can safely consume cannabis products.

Odessa Elie-David was born and raised in the Commonwealth of Dominica, where she developed a passion for technology and performing arts. She is a young professional who thrives as a technology consultant, dancer, blogger, model, and former Miss Dominica. Odessa attended the University of Arkansas and obtained Bachelor’s Degrees in Computer Science and International Studies, and a Master’s Degree in Information Systems. She is currently a consultant who develops analytics solutions and provides technical support for energy companies in the US and Canada. Odessa believes in sharing knowledge to empower others. Thus, she spent 5 years serving as a teacher and teaching assistant before and during her university tenure. She also started a blog in 2022 called The Data Model, where she shares her projects and resources for data science, engineering, and analytics. In her spare time, she mentors others who are interested in her field and gives back to communities that have shaped her.

CEO - Mount Kailash Rejuvenation Centre, Saint Lucia The Rt. Hon Priest Kailash Leonce

The Rt. Honorable Priest Kailash K. Leonce began his studies of medicine in Cuba in 2001. His determination to create products that were safe and effective propelled him to create the first of many plant-based products in 2004. In 2017, the Honorable Priest opened the Mount Kailash Rejuvenation Centre (MKRC) in a bid to revolutionise the healthcare system. The centre provides visitors with access to an everyday experience that reaps the healing energy in nature through individual or group retreats. The Honorable Priest’s years of experience have taught him that for healing to be effective, it must encompass all aspects of one’s daily manifestation. He has embraced the vehicle of education to disseminate a plethora of knowledge on healing through herbs and one’s thought patterns. He opened the Mount Kailash Herbal School of Esoteric Knowledge, where he passes his knowledge on to a diversity of students. He remains passionate about our ability to be self sufficient and economically viable, as was taught by the Honorable Marcus Garvey. As such, he is currently spearheading a ‘by the people’ and ‘for the people’ maritime movement to facilitate easier movement.

K’adamawe A.H.N. K’nife holds a PhD in Sustainable Development and an MSc in Economics. He is a lecturer and researcher in the Mona School of Business and Management at The University of the West Indies (UWI), where he is also the Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship Thinking and Practice (CETP). His areas of research are Entrepreneurship, Social Entrepreneurship, Social Sector Innovation, Strategic Planning for Sustainable Development and Climate Change, Gender, Youth and Special Needs Mainstreaming. His research has informed the development of MSME and Entrepreneurship policies in Jamaica; as well as several international, national, and sectorial strategic plans and programmes for sustainable community development within Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. He has also developed numerous workshops and capacity building programmes; strategic plans, business models and business plans, M&E and tracer systems for state, private sector, public sector, and social sector organisations within Jamaica and across the Region – with the objective of ‘empowering people/communities to empower themselves.

Michael Dershem, aka Dersh, is a seasoned business development entrepreneur who has assisted multiple ventures and attracted millions of dollars of capital. He has an outstanding track record in strategic business planning and development, capital and financial sourcing, multi-disciplinary problem solving, and technology development. He also has a strong technology-transfer background covering from government and university research to and private sector commercialization. Michael began his ‘serial entrepreneur’ career over twenty years ago. His first foray was as co owner of RX Returns, which grew to become the largest pharmaceutical returns company in the nation USA. He later helped to form a niche banking company, which became one of the fastest growing private companies in New Jersey. Serving as founding CEO of Pharmasset, an Emory University start-up company, he successfully raised over $25 million in private equity funding and executed a $30 million research and development agreement with DuPont. The company has subsequently gone public and was acquired by Gilead Sciences for $11 bBillion. Michael graduated with a BA in Economics from Dickinson College and holds an MBA as well.

Climate Smart Agriculturist Dr Guido Marcelle

Dr Guido Marcelle is a practicing natural farmer and environmentalist, instructor and researcher, focusing on sustainable agriculture, innovation, medicinal plants and spices, and product development. He previously worked with the Government of Grenada as Chief Analytical Chemist, Head of Grenada Produce Chemist Laboratory with analytical and managerial responsibilities for Food Technology, Forensic Drugs, and Pesticides. He is a graduate of the University of the West Indies, Trinidad, with a BSc. (Botany and Chemistry), MSc. (Chemistry), from the University of Illinois, U S A, Ph.D. (Pharmacognosy). He has published papers in Chemistry, Pharmacognosy, and Botany, authored three books, co-authored Caribbean Spice Island Plants; and delivered presentations locally, regionally, and internationally.

Cyril is a passionate holistic herbalist who is focused on wellness and prevention. His skills include but are not limited to holistic advice, consultations, research and analysis, formulation of herbal preparations, and creating herbal health care plans.

Cyril uses a holistic approach to his eating regimen, stress management, restorative sleep, and exercise, which he offers to his clients.

He studies the healing properties of plants and herbs to help clients and offers natural alternatives to modern medicine. He also develops individual herbal plans and strategies for clients based on their energetic pattern and lifestyle. Aman Quadri, PT, DPT, Cert. MDT, currently serves as a consultant in several different technology verticals, including healthtech, fintech, and future tech. He also serves as the Chief Strategy Officer at Amsys Group where he helps across a conglomerate of over 14 companies. Spending over two (2) decades combining technology and healthcare, Aman has built a solid foundation around the empowerment of others and believes that technology can build the gap between financial services and healthcare. He has helped to build out healthcare data platforms giving insights into medication usage and behavioral health that have impacted tens of thousands of lives, EMRs that were launched in developing nations, and has recently worked with groups bringing healthcare payments to the Caribbean. Pan American Health Organisation Dr Pilar Ramon-Pardo

Pilar Ramon-Pardo, M.D., Ph.D., coordinates the Special Program on Antimicrobial Resistance at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the WHO Regional Office for the Americas.

After training as a specialist in internal medicine, she obtained her PhD from the Complutense University of Madrid, with a thesis on antimicrobial resistance in Latin America. During the last 20 years, she has worked in prevention and control of infectious diseases in different countries in Africa, Asia and the Americas. Currently, she is the coordinator and responsible for the planning, programming and implementation of regional strategies to support Latin American and Caribbean countries in carrying out and scaling up national responses to antimicrobial resistance.

Chief Operations Officer, Medicinal Cannabis Authority, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Terral Mapp

Terral Mapp is an Economist by training. He holds a Master’s degree in Economics from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, and a Bachelor’s in Economics and Accounting from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus, Barbados. Mr. Mapp’s journey of acquiring practical knowledge started with a three-month internship in the Research Department of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank in 2012. He continued in the field of Economics at the Economic Planning Division in the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning, and Information Technology, where he worked from 2013 to 2018. Terral was subsequently transferred to the Medicinal Cannabis Authority to help establish the emerging Medicinal Cannabis Industry, and now serves as the Chief Operating Officer. He is presently the President of the Board of Directors of the Kingstown Co-operative Credit Union Limited. In addition, Terral is a Director on the Board of Directors of the Bank of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Maryna Al-Fauri MD PhD is an Associate Professor of Basic and Clinical Sciences at American University of the Caribbean, School of Medicine, a company that specializes on preparation of medical specialists. She is trained as a general surgeon, and currently contributes by teaching clinical anatomy, dissection, radiologic anatomy, and clinical medicine to medical students of the first through fifth semesters; serves as a co-director of GIT and Nutrition module; reviews research proposals and assigns funding as a treasure of SARC; serves as a faculty advisor for students of surgery interest group.

American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine Kholtyn Barney

Kholtyn Barney is a medical student at American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine. He currently is the lead Teaching Assistant in the Ultrasound Program at his school. He trains students how to identify anatomical structures as well as simulated disease presentations using the VIMEDIX ultrasound mannequins. Kholtyn also teaches students how to use the Butterfly ultrasound probe on standardized patients.

He has several years teaching experience for many different ages as well as experience in curriculum design for university level courses.

Senior Associate Dean of External Affairs, Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) Dr Rhonda McIntyre MBBS, FAAP, FRCP(C)

Dr Rhonda McIntyre is the Senior Associate Dean of External Affairs at Ross University School of Medicine. She is a board member of the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions (CAAM-HP) and the Barbados National NCD Commission. She is also the Director of the RUSM HEART Training Center, and American heart association accredited training center. Her prior portfolio includes, Dean of the Satellite Campus and Director of Health Services, RUSM. She was the Head of Pediatrics at Princess Margaret Hospital for many years and the Director of the Advanced Introduction to Clinical Medicine Program, RUSM (2007-2014). A certified fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada, a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and a member of the Section on International Child Health of the AAP, she is a graduate of the University of the West Indies with residency training in Canada at the British Columbia Children’s Hospital.She holds a Certificate in Healthcare leadership from Ecornell, Cornell University. She is involved with NGOs serving humanity and is the President of a nonprofit organization - The Dominica Children's Heart.

Professor and Chair of the Department of Clinical Foundations, Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) Dr Hedda G. Dyer MB CHB Ed, MRCS Ed, MBA

Dr. Hedda Dyer is a surgeon, medical educator and researcher. She is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Clinical Foundations at the Ross University School of Medicine. Her role involves leading a team of Faculty and skilled administrative professionals to consistently deliver excellence in clinical skills training for future physicians and their future patients. Dr. Dyer is also active in clinical community participatory research, focusing on the early detection, diagnosis of breast cancer in limited resource countries since 2008, along with breast and ovarian cancer health disparities since 2012. In medical education research, since 2019, her focus has been on the role of critical consciousness and self-reflection in cultural humility in achieving cultural competency in medical education. More recently, she has published on the use of Standardized Patients to Improve Trauma Informed Care in the era of the Covid-19 Pandemic. She was instrumental in transitioning an in-person clinical experience into an immersive telemedicine model, which serves as a sustainable teaching tool in the medical curriculum.

Professor and Chair of the Department of Clinical Foundations, Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) Magdalena Kwiatkowska MD, PhD

Magdalena Kwiatkowska, MD, PhD, Professor of Orthopedic and Trauma Surgery is the chair of the clinical medical sciences department, American University of the Caribbean, School of Medicine (AUC), Sint Maarten campus and Interim Associate Dean of Curriculum. She brings 21 years of experience in clinical practice, education and leadership to the role. Dr. Kwiatkowska leads the department and ensures high-quality clinical education and academic achievement, as demonstrated in medical student outcomes, faculty engagement, and scholarly productivity. Additionally, she is responsible for recruiting and mentoring faculty, nurturing student professional development, and fostering inclusion and interprofessionalism. Dr. Kwiatkowska earned a Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Philosophy at the Medical University of Warsaw, Poland. She is the author of several research papers published in Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy, Journal of Pediatric Orthopedics, Journal of Children’s Orthopedics and The Journal of Joint and Bone Surgery.

Professor of Anatomy and Chair of Medical Foundations, Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) Dr Sheila Nunn

Dr Sheila Nunn is a Professor of Anatomy and Chair of Medical Foundations at Ross University School of Medicine. She has been involved in the education of medical, dental and allied health professionals for over thirty years. Professor of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging, Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) Dr Marcin Kwiatkowski

Dr Marcin Kwiatkowski is Professor of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging at the Department of Clinical Medical Sciences at the American University of the Caribbean.

He completed his of residency training in Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospitals in Drogheda and Navan in Republic of Ireland in affiliation with the Faculty of Radiologists at the Royal College of Radiologists in Ireland and in Poland. He is board certified Radiologist. Dr Kwiatkowski developed the Radiology content for the Organ System based curriculum. He shares his knowledge and expertise as the Director of Harvey and Ultrasound Labs and as a CLR module Co-director. He trains and supervises Harvey and Ultrasound TAs across the medical science curriculum.
